Sport and commercial aviation are back together. The performance in the coming months of the Copa America Cup in Argentina is opening up opportunities for airlines to increase revenue, thanks to increased demand generated by the event.

The announcement of Aerolineas Argentinas to resume its flights between Mendoza and Santiago for the month of the Copa America, joined now known as PAL Airlines bid for this event by scheduling a series of flights from Chile to Mendoza and San Juan. Through a strategic alliance with major national tour operators, PAL Airlines has confirmed about 20 flights on Boeing 737-200 and B737-300 Adv, which will allow approximately 2,500 transfer passengers, in an operation considered crucial for the coming months.

As happened last year as the World Cup for South Africa 2010, PAL Airlines will go for the big events as a viable strategy to ensure growth, one of the main lessons that the company recovers from that time. That operation marked a turning point in the history of the company, demonstrating their ability, despite its size-to face significant challenges and meet the needs of their large customers. At that time, PAL Airlines acquired under a wet lease an Airbus A340-300 to the Portuguese Hi Fly to transport fans from Chile, Argentina and Uruguay to South Africa including the Uruguayan national team football itself.

summer 2011 operation was a further example of the capabilities of younger Chilean company, which taking past experience, was able to make the largest increase in capacity in all its years of operation incorporating ; three aircraft, an Airbus A330-300s and two Boeing 757-200 which offered flights from Argentina, Chile and Uruguay to different parts of the Caribbean and South America (Brazil), which were continued even well into the month of March.

Conducting large events such as World Cup or the Copa America, constitute a key opportunity for PAL to achieve the goals set for this year. It was learned that the airline expects to grow to 3% and get a 58% increase in passenger traffic compared to 2010 results. To this is added the influence of external variables such as the falling dollar and the best situation of the national economy, which will contribute to a further increase in the number of passengers, and the trend of recent months as indicated by statistics Civil Aeronautics Board.

In their need to ensure growth, PAL Airlines has developed various solutions for business, relying heavily on charter flights, a segment that until recently was little exploited by Chilean airlines. In that sense, sports have become an excellent opportunity for the company to increase its market share and projected into the future, avoiding as far as possible in direct competition with major carriers.
